No Surprise! California Leads in Hybrid Car Sales!

According to a study revealed this week, California residents buy more fuel-efficient vehicles than any other state in the U.S. The research also shows, hybrid cars are being purchased due to financial rather than environmental concerns.

California leads by 39,830 new hybrid sales from January through May, nearly five times as many as in Florida, the second ranked state with 8,810 purchases. The third ranked state is New York with 8,612 registrations. Texas follows with 8,255 new hybrid car sales. The residents od Illinois helped the state rank five with 6,107 hybrid car registartions.

Two out of top five cities for hybrid registration are located in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco take the top two spots with a combined 28,793 registrations. New York City and D.C. are ranked three and four, while Chicago is takes the fifth place.

The research found that about 70 percent of hybrid car buyers surveyed say gas prices were not the only reason to go green – tax incentives also played a big role.
